Feathered Friends

Very early this morning my Wayfarer Purse with a Bird made it to Etsy's front page! Thank you Hal of Diaspora for creating such a cool treasury and Etsy for selecting it for the front page. Check out Diaspora for beautiful modern art to light up your living space and also check her profile for links to jewelry made with her art.

When I first saw this treasury, titled Feathered Friends, I thought it was front page material. Hal selected some really eclectic, fun and beautiful items. I'm thinking Bjork might be interested in Zoe Chen's swan dress above. What do you think?! I love it. It's elegant and quirky at the same time. I personally liked Bjork's swan dress as well. By now you can probably tell that I am partial to aviary-inspired work. :)

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. Music Inspired

Pink Floyd Bowie Red Hot Chili Peppers Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit. Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike.
