Winter White

I know that Autumn has only begun but the cooler weather in NYC has me thinking of the upcoming winter season. Boots, coats and pretty soft warm scarfs come to mind. I love winter attire although I prefer warmer weather if I had a choice. Recently I had a customer inquire about a possible custom order bag in an off white corduroy. I decided to purchase a few yards of cream and winter white online. I usually order swatches before committing to buy but since it was a small quantity I decided to take a risk. When my package arrived I was a little disappointed to find that both fabrics I ordered where pretty much the same color. Now I have lots of winter white corduroy in stock and already added a purse to my shop created with my winter inspired textile!

Absolutely gorgeous! My mother always held to the "Don't wear white after Labour Day" thing, which of couse made white all the more appealing in Winter :) Your designs are striking.

It's beautiful, white is such an elegant colour for winter!
At the moment not my most practical colour (so hard to get those chocolate finger stains out of white corduroy...) but you should definitely make more bags out of that material!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes ava

Freezing in Florida

I'm back from my week long vacation in St. Augustine, Florida. Founded in 1565, it is the oldest established city and the oldest port in the continental United States. My partner Tom and I stayed at a oceanfront hotel located on St. Augustine Beach, just 3.7 miles from historic downtown St. Augustine, with views of the sea and the sound of crashing waves from our room. The weather was quite cool for this time of the year with an average temperature in the low to mid 50's but we enjoyed exploring downtown, walks on the beach and having an indoor pool and hot tub to relax in. The hotel had an area with a glass wind barrier that made it warm enough to lie in the sun, even with a bathing suit on, in 50 degree weather. Walks on the beach required socks with sandals most days, yes I know that is a big fashion faux pas but I made it work with matching socks. I must say that I did not miss the hustle and bustle of NYC at all and throughly enjoyed the relaxation and peace. Today in NY
