Pesky Cat Designs in the News

Last week a press agent from Etsy contacted me about a story that FOX 5 News, here in NYC, is doing on Etsy and asked if I would like to participate. They wanted a local designer to interview as part of the story. I agreed and this past Tuesday morning FOX 5 News showed up at my home studio to do an interview about Pesky Cat Designs! Both the reporter and cameraman were very nice and made me feel at ease. Although I am definitely not someone comfortable speaking in public I agreed to do it and decided I would give it my best. When the reporter, a really nice person, was talking to me off camera I was comfortable and had fun. But when the camera came on all of a sudden it was more difficult to think through my answers etc. Strange what a seemingly harmless camera can do to a person. I felt like it was generating some kind of mind alternating current that prevented my brain from functioning at its best. In any case I made it through and was told that I did fine. I hope that I do not appear too nervous or look stiff as a board. Perhaps when they edit and piece the interview together it will all flow nicely and my stiffness will vanish. A happy thought.
I'll let you know when the story airs and post a link!

Congrats on the feature!! That is soooo cool. I am the same way when a camera is on. I would have froze.

That is AWESOME! You are so pretty and I'm sure you did great! I used to have my own television talk show (no big deal) so I've seen all kinds of reactions from people when they are on air. The thing is, they almost always come off much better than they think they do! Can't wait to see you on TV! Now when I buy a bag, I'll have to get an autograph! Cheery wave from Bev

So cool of Etsy to recognize the amazing talent right at their dorstep, I can't wait to see the story!
I just cannot wait to see the interview. You're such a naturally talented and kind person and I'm sure that will show during the interview. And those new linen bags are amazing. Nice work!

This is a wonderful experience, I am sure it will be excellent.Last year I had an opportunity to experience the fear of the camera pointing at me...someone described it very well " I felt like a rabbit in the headlights"! I am sure now you can relate and laugh at the comment!!
Well done!and hope you get lots of great publicity :)

I've done tv before and was a nervous wreck although everybody who saw it assured me that they couldn't tell. I'm sure that you were fine and that the exposure will be great.

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
