A Couple of Messengers

I just added a couple of messenger bags to the Pesky Cat Designs shop. The one shown above is made from a home decor fabric in pure linen that I picked up at Gray Line Linen located in the Garment District, NYC. They have a huge selection of linen in all types of weights, textures and colors. I'll be adding more bags created from this lovely textile to my shop next week!

New Textiles in the Studio

New textiles for my spring/summer collection are now in stock at the Pesky Cat Designs studio. Thick 100% linen basket weave, cotton/linen fabric and heavy upholstery weight basket weave cotton. See swatches below for a few examples. I also purchased some new cotton print textiles that I use for the interior of my bags. I could not resist the quirky owl print shown above. There are a few bags already available in my shop made from 100% linen and more are coming. I'm working on several messenger bags at the moment and hope to have them in my shop either this week or next. I will also keep you posted on the FOX 5 news story ! Pesky Cat Designs in the News

L ast week a press agent from Etsy contacted me about a story that FOX 5 News, here in NYC, is doing on Etsy and asked if I would like to participate. They wanted a local designer to interview as part of the story. I agreed and this past Tuesday morning FOX 5 News showed up at my home studio to do an interview about Pesky Cat Designs! Both the reporter and cameraman were very nice and made me feel at ease. Although I am definitely not someone comfortable speaking in public I agreed to do it and decided I would give it my best. When the reporter, a really nice person, was talking to me off camera I was comfortable and had fun. But when the camera came on all of a sudden it was more difficult to think through my answers etc. Strange what a seemingly harmless camera can do to a person. I felt like it was generating some kind of mind alternating current that prevented my brain from functioning at its best. In any case I made it through and was told that I did fine. I hope that I do not a

The Spring Collection: A Preview

Here's a little peek into my new collection of bags for Spring 2010. The purse above is made from a premium faux suede in lilac with a sunny flower applique and a wood button with a floral pattern engraving. A perfect purse for the upcoming spring and summer season. The interior has a key clip, a new addition, and a pocket to keep things organized. The photos above were taken on the H igh Line , a 1.45 mile New York City park built on a section of the former elevated freight railroad of the West Side Line, along the lower west side of Manhattan. I'll be adding six new purses to the Pesky Cat Designs shop this evening. Stay tuned!

Freezing in Florida

I'm back from my week long vacation in St. Augustine, Florida. Founded in 1565, it is the oldest established city and the oldest port in the continental United States. My partner Tom and I stayed at a oceanfront hotel located on St. Augustine Beach, just 3.7 miles from historic downtown St. Augustine, with views of the sea and the sound of crashing waves from our room. The weather was quite cool for this time of the year with an average temperature in the low to mid 50's but we enjoyed exploring downtown, walks on the beach and having an indoor pool and hot tub to relax in. The hotel had an area with a glass wind barrier that made it warm enough to lie in the sun, even with a bathing suit on, in 50 degree weather. Walks on the beach required socks with sandals most days, yes I know that is a big fashion faux pas but I made it work with matching socks. I must say that I did not miss the hustle and bustle of NYC at all and throughly enjoyed the relaxation and peace. Today in NYC
