Feathers, Fringe and More

Last week was spent experimenting on new designs and techniques. Had fun creating a fringe and feather clutch. This one will be a gift for a friend.

Added a few large wristlets to the shop with bird and oak leaf appliques.

Also added a medium sized two-toned faux suede shoulder bag with a handmade bird applique.

And here's what my studio looks like this morning. There's a couple of hand-woven ikat and recycled leather clutches to be photographed and added to the shop. More corduroy purses in progress in khaki and olive green and a beautiful butterfly print canvas waiting to be transformed into a tote bag.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead. Enjoy!

All ever so pretty!!!
And tell me something Elisa: is your studio always so tidy??? Amazing! You should see mine right now!
Happy Sunday!!! :-)
Yael- I always take my studio photos in the morning before I begin working. And I always tidy up my studio the night before. If you saw a photo mid-day it would not look so tidy. Often there is so much stuff on the table that I do not have room to lay out fabric to cut. And that is a very long table. ;)

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
