Studio News

When it rains it pours. At the moment I have outside commitments/jobs that are keeping me quite busy so production in the studio has been a lot slower and often at a stand still. Last week I add a few new purses to the shop made from gorgeous faux suede. Above is today's glimpse into the Pesky Cat Designs studio. These bags were cut and prepared today but there's still a lot of work to be done before they are completed. I'll keep you posted.  Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Color Blocking

This year's fashion trend of color blocking has really caught my eye. It combines the use of two or more blocks of color in one item or in an ensemble. This morning I got inspired to create a bag design using this latest trend. I rushed off to my studio and several hours later the   Two Tone Jewel Cut Purse emerged. I've got more ideas for color block purses so I can't wait to get back to the studio!

The Spring Collection: A Video by the Sea

New Textiles

If you have been following my blog then you know how excited I get about fabric. I recently received a shipment of cotton print fabric that I ordered online and I am thrilled with it. The retro-look floral cotton fabric posted above will work well with lots of different colors. Can't wait to line my handbags with these great prints. The black and white number posted above will look great lining a black handbag or perhaps a red one. I also have some soft pink cotton/linen blend fabric that will be perfect. I just love this retro-look strawberry and flower fabric in gray and red. It is just sweeeeet! I think I might coordinate it with a dark gray cotton/linen blend fabric.  Last but not least I just had to purchase a few yards of this cotton fabric with grazing horses. It was just too much fun to pass by. It will work so nicely with my equestrian line of handbags. So now I'm off to cut, cut  and  sew, sew.  Stay tuned for the results!

Summer Dreaming and a Storque Feature!

Yesterday I discovered that my Limited Edition Downtown Bag was featured in the Storque article,  Summer Fashion Showcase ,  reported by Bethela . Thanks Etsy and Bethela! So today I am dreaming of beautiful summer days spent by the ocean, my favorite place in the world, while it is raining cats and dogs here in NYC!

Spring Colors 2009

Its been pretty cold in New York City and warm weather seems so far away. But before you know it, spring will be here. A few days ago I received an email from a potential customer on Etsy asking about colors that would take her into spring. Although it's a personal choice, most people seem to prefer light colors versus dark colors for warm weather.  In any case, her email made me think about my spring collection. I've purchased some new fabric this month with warmer weather in mind. Clockwise from top left corner, cotton duck in slate gray, cotton duck in periwinkle blue, cotton canvas in lilac, cotton twill in khaki, handwoven hemp in a variety of colors, linen in natural, linen in cilantro, cotton duck in olive green, cotton twill in red and cotton twill in true blue. The olive fabric is dark but some customers like the darker tones all year round. Olive also looks awesome with a cream colored applique. See here .  I also did a search online and found the Pantone Fashion Colo...

Preparations

Y esterday I spent a lot of my day cutting fabric for new handbags and other items in preparation for the Brooklyn Indie Market that I will be participating in on July 12th from 11AM to 7PM. This past Monday I purchased some great cotton canvas in caramel, light steel gray, olive green and natural with a linen like texture as well as some fabric for my applique work in dark gray and caramel ultrasuede. The ideas are already flowing for new designs and fabric combinations. Cant wait to get started! Also pictured above are a few new handbags that I completed this week. I will be posting them in my shop this week.
