Hand-woven Ikat and Stripes

Just added a batch of Foldover Clutches   to the shop made from cotton stripes and Ikat that was hand-woven on a treadle loom in the highlands of Guatemala. Each pattern is unique and gorgeous. I have a limited amount of yardage left, just enough for a few bags and some more clutches.  What are your plans for this weekend? I plan to work in my studio on some new ideas.  And if weather permits, we plan a drive or bike trip to the ocean. Maybe a seaside picnic. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Enjoy!

Saturday's View of the Studio

Here's a glimpse of the Pesky Cat Designs studio this morning. I often start a project and then get another idea mid-stream and begin work on that before finishing the first project. This can go on for quite some time with fabrics, appliques, buttons, trims and more scattered all over my very large table until it gets out of hand. Even though it is a large table at 80 inches long, it does have a limit. At one point I have to force myself to stop, put everything away and only concentrate on the work at hand.  Right now I have two bags and three clutches at various stages of completion.  Handmade Clutches Yesterday I added three new generously sized zippered clutch bags to the shop with various adornments. If you were wondering what Anni's been up to, she's been hanging out on the ledge or should I say living on the edge. I always get nervous when I see her up there but below is a padded and carpeted stairway. I try to tell her that I would prefer that she didn't

The Spring Equinox

Today was the first day of spring in this part of the world. To celebrate I added some springtime bags to the shop . Happy sunny flowers. A Cornflower Blue Tote. Took an afternoon bike ride around town. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Yesterday I was listening to Flagler College radio and the announcer was about to give the weather report and then said "Forget about that. Everyday is paradise here in St. Augustine." And he is so right!

Tapestry

Cat Messenger in Vintage Cotton Tapestry and Faux Suede When I saw this vintage cotton tapestry with a cat surrounded by a floral wonderland I just knew I had to create something with it. I decided on a basic messenger made from faux suede and used the tapestry to make a sweet flap that would be the centerpiece. The kitty is quite regal looking sitting so majestically but we all know she/he is chasing butterflies and birds in the garden when we are not looking.  Equestrian Messenger in Cotton Tapestry and Faux Suede Also added to the shop is this sweet messenger made from a rustic looking cotton tapestry. Market Tote in Cotton Tapestry This tote really shows off the cool images on this tapestry. Almost every farm animal that you can image is featured. And I also love the quilt block motifs. All these bags are now available in the shop .  Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday. Enjoy!

Nautical Blues and More

New Foldover Clutches have been added to the Pesky Cat Designs shop today. The group above is made from upholstery grade faux suede and paired with whimsical designer prints. Top left is a cotton print which is part of the Modern Glamour Collection by Iman, the noted supermodel and philanthropist. The other two prints are from designer Annie Selke's "Blue Marine" Collection.  Two more clutches made from a cotton Ikat hand-woven in India were added to shop. I still have enough of this wonderful textile to make a few more. A clutch made with a colorful southwestern-style woven cotton paired with a vibrant teal faux suede was also added. All these clutches are now available in my shop !

Time

Photo via Wiki Wonderful Yael, of PazzaPazza , has challenged us to do a blogpost on "Time" today. So here is my contribution, a little late in the day, but better late than never!  This weekend was Daylight Saving Time here and that meant that we had to advance our clocks forward one hour. No one informed the stray rooster that lives across the street so he was crowing an hour later than his usual time on Sunday morning. Well, that depends on how you look at it. He crows at sunrise and that has not changed. But now sunrise happens at a later time. Well, at a later time according to the clock on the wall.  So that brings me to my next topic. I now have an extra hour of sunlight in the evenings to work in my studio. That thought makes me realize how much I think about time.  How much time do I have, did I spend my time wisely, did I just waste time, did I spend enough time? I realize I am fooled into thinking I have extra time. The rooster knows best!

The Birds Have Arrived

This week in the studio it was all about birds. Seven new bags adorned with handmade bird appliques are now available in the shop . Above is a shot of my studio taken yesterday morning. Yes, I did tidy it up a bit before taking the photo. :) This shot of the studio was taken mid-day Monday. All the new bags are made from upholstery grade faux suede and are now available in the shop.  Next week I am thinking flowers might be the theme. Stay tuned to find out. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead. Enjoy!

A Rustic Ranch Shop Update

Tapestry Hobo Bag with Farm Animals Last week I purchased this amazing heavyweight cotton tapestry with farm animals and had to work with it right away. Love the southwestern-style designs on it as well and its rustic look. I decided to create a Hobo Style bag since I could use a large piece of the fabric therefore more of the cool images would be visible. I paired it with a soft faux suede in truffle brown. New Foldover Clutches Also added a few more Foldover Clutches to the shop.  Faux Suede Purse with Southwestern Style Trim and a Handmade Bird Applique Created this sweet purse from a high quality upholstery grade faux suede that's also eco-friendly as it's made from recycled polyester fibers. I was only able to snatch up a few yards of it. Its got a beautiful feel to it and is just the right weight for creating handbags.  Yesterday we took a long walk on the beach and I came across this feather in the sand. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead. Enjoy!
