Sneak Preview

P leated handbags are the rave so I decided it was time to create my very own version. Below is a sneak preview of a new design that will be available in my shop very soon.  The one posted below is made from a beautiful cotton/linen blend fabric in plum. It's 11.5" tall, 17" wide across bottom, 13.5" wide across top and 3.5" deep. There are three interior pockets to keep things organized and it's fully lined in a cool cotton paisley print.

New Designs

T he past few weeks I've been working on some new handbag designs. I've had a lot of requests for a larger sized bag so I'm creating a few designs that will feature lots of pockets and will be large enough to carry a laptop and more. Posted below is a test run of a tote style bag that I am still perfecting. It's 14.5 " tall, 14" wide and  4" deep. It features two large exterior pockets and two interior pockets. My new creations will be available in my shop very soon!

Destination: Europe

I n the past few weeks I sold a couple of handbags from my Etsy Shop to customers living in Europe. See photos posted below. Thanks to Etsy's website my handbags have reached destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Canada. See my previous post, Around the World , for more examples.                          The Netherlands                                   The United Kingdom

W ristlets are now available in my shop ! I'll be posting them throughout the week. They are perfect for an evening out or other times when you want your hands free and don't want to carry to much. Pictured above is a mint green wristlet in a cotton linen blend with an applique in chocolate brown ultrasuede. It will fit a cellphone, credit cards, keys, cash and lipstick. All the essentials! I am presently working on some new designs for larger size bags. One will be a tote style with lots of pockets that will fit a laptop and much more! Stay tuned.

New Two-Tone Purses

M y new two-tone purses, pictured above,  will be available in my shop this week. They're made from 100% linen in a natural tone and ultrasuede in chocolate brown.  The applique is made from matching ultrasuede and was designed by me, hand cut and machine sewn onto the purse. The slim-line design makes it great to bring on an evening out or anytime you prefer to carry less but still want to bring the essentials. I just love the linen and ultrasuede combo!

Yesterday at the Brooklyn Indie Market

Y esterday I spent the day selling my handmade goods at the Brooklyn Indie Market . It was a beautiful day in the mid 80's and breezy. This was my first time selling at an outdoor market and it turned out very well!  I sold many of my handbags and almost all my wristlets, which were a new addition to my collection made specifically for the market. I plan to add them to my Etsy shop very soon. My first customer was a lovely french woman who purchased two purses. She picked a light gray purse with a bird on a branch applique and a red one with a bird applique.  I met so many wonderful and talented artists selling their creations at the market such as Scarlet who makes really cool screen print designs on clothing and also makes jewelry . She has two shops on Etsy, Made by Scarlet    and Begonia44 .  Sitting next to me at the market was Arien of Turquoise Dreams who makes amazing handmade resin jewelry using vintage postage stamps and other delights. I'm Off to the Market

T oday I'll be selling my handbags at the Brooklyn Indie Market  located at the corner of Smith and Union Street in Brooklyn from 11am to 7pm. I'll have over 40 items available for sale that include purses, shoulder bags, messenger bags, hipsters, wristlets and more. Come see what all the amazing designers are creating. Look forward to seeing you there!

Front Page on July 4th!

S ometime early this morning on July 4th , my Saddle Bag made it to the front page of Etsy's website! I was informed by a friend who sent me an e-mail that included a screen shoot. Thanks Mellissa! I got a lot more hearts added to my site and interest in my shop . My thanks to Lusummers for creating such a cool treasury and including my handbag. Lusummers creates lovely mixed media art that is available on Etsy. One of my favorites is a black and white hand embriodered pinback button . Check out her shop ! Later on tonight my partner Tom and I plan to watch the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks from the comfort of our apartment. We only get to see what reaches over the top of the buildings in front of us but it's still a lot better than being outside and trying to find a spot among the huge crowd of spectators. I am not sure if Anni, our kitty will enjoy the fireworks as much as we will! Happy 4th of July to you all!

I Got a New Sewing Machine!

Y esterday my trusty 25-year-old sewing machine that was given to me by my mother finally gave up. It began with a squeaky sound while I was in the midst of sewing an applique. I decided to stop and give it a thorough oiling but the squeaking continued. When I opened the bobbin area I noticed a fine black powder had been accumulating under my machine probably due to grinding of machine parts. Not good. I had been pushing my poor machine way beyond its capacity. I did get a bit sad but also excited about the prospect of something newer and better. I've been researching sewing machines on the Internet for quite some time and day dreaming of a faster and better model.  So, today I headed over to  Sew Fast Sew Easy , a lovely shop located on 35th St. between Broadway and 7th Ave. in New York City. I am on a limited budget and needed something in a medium price range.  The staff was so friendly and helpful. I decided on the Limited Edition Project Runway Innov-is 40 , a 40-stitch comput
