Front Page on July 4th!

Sometime early this morning on July 4th, my Saddle Bag made it to the front page of Etsy's website! I was informed by a friend who sent me an e-mail that included a screen shoot. Thanks Mellissa! I got a lot more hearts added to my site and interest in my shop. My thanks to Lusummers for creating such a cool treasury and including my handbag. Lusummers creates lovely mixed media art that is available on Etsy. One of my favorites is a black and white hand embriodered pinback button. Check out her shop !

Later on tonight my partner Tom and I plan to watch the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks from the comfort of our apartment. We only get to see what reaches over the top of the buildings in front of us but it's still a lot better than being outside and trying to find a spot among the huge crowd of spectators. I am not sure if Anni, our kitty will enjoy the fireworks as much as we will! Happy 4th of July to you all!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
