Saturday's View of the Studio

Here's a glimpse of the Pesky Cat Designs studio this morning. I often start a project and then get another idea mid-stream and begin work on that before finishing the first project. This can go on for quite some time with fabrics, appliques, buttons, trims and more scattered all over my very large table until it gets out of hand. Even though it is a large table at 80 inches long, it does have a limit. At one point I have to force myself to stop, put everything away and only concentrate on the work at hand.

Right now I have two bags and three clutches at various stages of completion.

Yesterday I added three new generously sized zippered clutch bags to the shop with various adornments.

If you were wondering what Anni's been up to, she's been hanging out on the ledge or should I say living on the edge. I always get nervous when I see her up there but below is a padded and carpeted stairway. I try to tell her that I would prefer that she didn't jump there, but she only gives me a puzzled look like the one above and looks away.  I have to remind myself that cats will be cats.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. Enjoy and be well!

I totally understand your trouble to concentrate with the current project LOL :) Great production Elisa! x
Lovely work space! And I totally relate to the evolution of ideas and projects … evolving to that point of *must focus!* And Anni … she's beautiful on her perch!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
