Pesky Cat Designs

The Hobo Tote Bag is coming back to the Pesky Cat Designs shop. I will be making a few tweaks to the design but it will still have a long adjustable strap so it can be worn short or long over the shoulder or cross body. It will be available in a variety of applique designs and without. It's roomy without being bulky. Perfect as an everyday bag. I should have a batch in the shop in the next week or so. Stay tuned!

Colorful totes were added to the shop today. Made from upholstery grade faux suede and adorned with a hand-cut bird applique. Inside you will find a generously sized zippered pocket. A magnetic snap keeps the bag closed. The tote above is made from a gorgeous faux leather with a distressed look in caramel brown.  Clean simple lines. The perfect everyday bag for all your journeys.

When it rains it pours. At the moment I have outside commitments/jobs that are keeping me quite busy so production in the studio has been a lot slower and often at a stand still. Last week I add a few new purses to the shop made from gorgeous faux suede. Above is today's glimpse into the Pesky Cat Designs studio. These bags were cut and prepared today but there's still a lot of work to be done before they are completed. I'll keep you posted.  Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

First of all I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! With the new year here I am now looking ahead and planning my future at Pesky Cat Designs.  My studio time will be a lot more limited this year due to other obligations. Because of this I need to plan my studio time very wisely. Keeping the shop stocked with more popular items such as the Wayfarer Purse pictured above is one of my plans for the new year.  New fabrics for 2013 are now available in the studio. A thick cotton/hemp with a linen weave in oatmeal and a sky blue will be perfect for spring bags. Also in stock is a heavy-weight faux suede in sky blue, dark slate and lipstick red that I am excited to work with. A selection of pvc-free faux leather is available as well. Of course, a very important part of planning for 2013 will be making sure I leave enough free time for myself to enjoy family, friends and walks on the beach. This past week I was on a mini vacation sight seeing around town with a friend that was visiting. We strolled downtown, spent days on the beach and had meals seaside. I had a wonderful time! In between all the sight seeing I found time to cut out a few new items and they are waiting in my studio to be transformed into purses and clutches. The two beautiful prints on the right are from Iman's collection of textiles and the Ikat on the left was hand-woven in India and is just gorgeous in different tones of blue. Also, a shipment of lovely faux suede arrived in chestnut brown, mustard yellow, deep ocean blue, fuchsia, taupe and lemon butter that I can not wait to start working with. All this activity had Anni quite tired so she decided to spend most of her time napping. Full production in the studio is about to begin so I might have to wake up my little assistant. Usually some thread dangling from a spool does the trick. 

Just added a few items to the Pesky Cat Designs shop . First, a custom order Hobo Bag with an oak leaf applique. It's made from a buttery soft faux suede in chestnut brown. Next, a Foldover Clutch made from a beautiful cotton floral home decor print with a faux suede bottom. Corduroy has returned to the shop! Olive green corduroy Wayfarer Purse adorned with a bird applique.   A tangerine corduroy Wayfarer Purse is also available. This one is sure to brighten up all your outfits. Lots of new purses with handmade bird appliques have arrived at the Pesky Cat Designs shop.  The most requested bag in my shop is the Wayfarer Purse with a bird applique. Upon perusing my inventory last week I realized I did not stock enough of this style considering it was my most popular item. From here on I plan to have a nice selection available in many colors. Right now I am loving the faux suede. It's a textile for all seasons and sews up beautifully. The new batch of bags that were added to the shop today are made from faux suede with contrast stitching and are adorned with pretty wood buttons. I also added a handy faux suede zipper pull to the interior zippered pocket. There's one zippered pocket and one slip pocket to keep your things organized and a magnetic closure on the flap. In the upcoming weeks I'll be adding more bird purses to the shop in a variety of colors. I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. Enjoy!

New Foldover Clutches have been added to the Pesky Cat Designs shop today. The group above is made from upholstery grade faux suede and paired with whimsical designer prints. Top left is a cotton print which is part of the Modern Glamour Collection by Iman, the noted supermodel and philanthropist. The other two prints are from designer Annie Selke's "Blue Marine" Collection.  Two more clutches made from a cotton Ikat hand-woven in India were added to shop. I still have enough of this wonderful textile to make a few more. A clutch made with a colorful southwestern-style woven cotton paired with a vibrant teal faux suede was also added. All these clutches are now available in my shop !

This week in the studio it was all about birds. Seven new bags adorned with handmade bird appliques are now available in the shop . Above is a shot of my studio taken yesterday morning. Yes, I did tidy it up a bit before taking the photo. :) This shot of the studio was taken mid-day Monday. All the new bags are made from upholstery grade faux suede and are now available in the shop.  Next week I am thinking flowers might be the theme. Stay tuned to find out. The Foldover Clutch Introducing a new design, the foldover clutch, now available at the Pesky Cat Designs shop . It's a fun and stylish way for you to carry your essentials.   Southwestern-inspired Messenger I also added a few more southwestern-inspired bags made from faux suede and adorned with handcut feather appliques and cool woven trim. Faux suede is my favorite textile to work with right now. I'm expecting another shipment today. These days I do most of my textile shopping online, spending hours perusing upholstery sites, ordering samples and waiting patiently for them to arrive. Once they arrive I spend more hours deciding which to order and at what quantities! All my new clutches and bags are now available in the shop . You can also peruse my photo album on facebook here . Faux Suede Hobo Bag with Feather Appliques Just added a batch of new bags to the shop .  Faux Suede Wayfarer Purse with Feather Appliques The feather is a new applique design I created this week. I'm really pleased with the result. Faux Suede Hobo Bag I also drafted a new bag design, a hobo style bag, that looks great slung over the shoulder or worn cross body. The above is made from faux suede and adorned with a southwestern style woven trim. Faux Suede Hobo Bag with Bird Applique This new batch of bags are all made from faux suede which is my favorite textile of the moment. I just ordered some more swatches of colors and can't wait to peruse them.  If you've been wondering what Anni is up to, this is pretty much what she did all day.

Here's a little peek into my new collection of bags for Spring 2010. The purse above is made from a premium faux suede in lilac with a sunny flower applique and a wood button with a floral pattern engraving. A perfect purse for the upcoming spring and summer season. The interior has a key clip, a new addition, and a pocket to keep things organized. The photos above were taken on the H igh Line , a 1.45 mile New York City park built on a section of the former elevated freight railroad of the West Side Line, along the lower west side of Manhattan. I'll be adding six new purses to the Pesky Cat Designs shop this evening. Stay tuned!

H ere's a sneak peek of my new faux suede collection! The Patchwork Messenger bag pictured above is made from four different colors of premium faux suede in lilac, olive green, truffle and chartreuse. Anytime I purchase new fabric I make a swatch to save for future reference. When I saw all my swatches next to each other I was inspired to use all four colors to create a bag. So that is how the patchwork bag evolved. I also have a newly designed shoulder bag coming and more Wayfarer Purses. They should all be available in the Pesky Cat Designs shop late afternoon. Faux Suede in Olive Green, Chartreuse, Lilac and Truffle A new collection of handbags made from premium faux suede fabric are coming to the Pesky Cat Designs studio! The fabric samples posted above are some of the colors that will be available. I'm also working on revising some of my designs and adding a new creation. In case you are wondering about my Harris Tweed Collection , more is one the way. I'm ordering more fabric directly from the Isle of Harris! Stay tuned!

                   The Pleated Everyday Bag in Faux Suede  I just ordered some free samples of heavyweight faux suede from an online store and can't wait to receive them! I'll let you know how they turn out in a future post. I was inspired by a new handbag I created yesterday made from some very thick faux suede from my stash. I had originally bought it for my applique designs but found that it was almost too thick to work with. I decided to pull it out and test how it would pleat/drape using my pleated shoulder bag design. Well it works wonderfully!! Since it's as thick as real suede it was a bit of a challenge sewing. It looks so much like real suede that I found myself smelling it several times just to be sure!
