Heat and Bond

This week I discovered a product called HeatnBond Lite for my applique work. It has made my life so much easier. It is a paper backed lightweight adhesive designed for the bonding of lightweight fabrics. In the past I would draw my design directly to the wrong side of my applique fabric, cut it out, pin it to my main fabric and sew it on. Sometimes the applique would shift causing me some aggravation.
With HeatnBond I draw my design freehand directly onto the paper using a pencil so I can erase if I need to. Once I have my drawing complete, I roughly cut it out from the paper and iron it on to the wrong side of my applique fabric. Next I precisely cut out my applique, peel off the paper, place my applique right side up onto my main fabric and iron it on! Now my applique is securely in place so I can easily sew the edges with a decorate stitch. I found a website with a good tutorial to follow.
This week I made some new handbags using this technique. Above I posted a semi-circle design made of wool with a raw silk applique.

Home Sweet Home

After spending several months on a job assignment that took me away from my studio, I'm finally back in St. Augustine, FL. I worked with a wonderful group of folks and enjoyed my stay in Tarrytown, NY which is about 40 minutes by train into NYC.
I'm eager to get back to designing and creating and have lots of new ideas I can't wait to get started on.

Above is a shot of Millie, a wonderful coworker back in New York, modeling the Harris Tweed Patchwork Satchel. Wish I had her here for my next photo shoot!

Time

My work pictured on the left has taken time away from my work on the right. Spending free time these days with friends and walks on the beach.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Souvenirs from a Road Trip Giveaway!

That's me in Miami Beach, Florida!

I'm back from a fantastic road trip around the South East, USA!  My partner and I started in NYC and went south on Interstate 95 down to Miami Beach, Florida. We made many stops along the way to amble about and see the sites. In honor of this wonderful trip I decided to have a Giveaway! The Giveaway will be my Saddle Bag, pictured to your left, filled with a few souvenirs ( a surprise!) from my trip. To enter the giveaway all you need to do is follow my blog and post a comment about your favorite vacation at the end of this post.  That's it! I'll pick one winner at random (I will use random.org) this coming Monday. Good luck!
