Pesky Cat Designs

I recently took a mini vacation when a good friend from out of town came to visit. We relaxed on the beach, took walks downtown, explored historical sites and more. I had a wonderful time!  Downtown St. Augustine. Path to the beach. Spotted on the beach. A sandman with a horseshoe crab head. Anni enjoying the view from the balcony. Now it's time to get busy in the studio. I am currently working on a batch of purses made from corduroy adorned with bird appliques. I absolutely love corduroy and have a nice selection of sturdy upholstery grade in a variety of colors including olive green, burnt orange, slate gray and cherry red.  Should have the first batch in the SHOP this Wednesday. Corduroy Foldover Clutches are now available in the shop! Perfect for autumn strolls and trips to your favorite cafe.  The Owl Print Wayfarer Purse is back by popular demand. There are two available in the shop at the moment. My studio time has been a bit limited these days but I'm still working on new items and also hope to introduce a new bag design or two very soon. New corduroy purses adorned with faux suede handmade bird appliques have just been added to the Pesky Cat Designs shop.                                         Available in slate blue, chocolate brown, red and olive green upholstery corduroy.  Adorned with a lovely engraved wood button and lined in cotton stripes. A shot of the studio last week with the bags in progress along with a batch of custom clutches wrapped for shipping.  This week I'll be creating Harris Tweed foldover clutches in a variety of check/plaid weaves with a new batch of tweed I just received from Scotland.     Wishing you all a great week ahead!

Corduroy color selections for the Fall/Winter 2012 collection have just been ordered. Interior fabric choices will include florals, stripes or cream cotton drill. Starting from top left: khaki, slate blue, stripe interior, red, tangerine, chocolate brown, olive green, charcoal gray and a floral interior. All of these colors should be in stock at the studio starting August. I can only invest in limited amounts of each color at one time but will be re-ordering as needed. Please keep in mind that when I re-order fabric it can take 1 to 2 weeks to arrive, so if there is a purse in the shop that you like and want right away you might want to snatch it up. Pictured above is the Jewel Cut Bag  now available in the shop.  It's a larger bag with plenty of room for your daily essentials and more. I plan to introduce a few more larger sized bags to the shop very soon.    This morning I shipped a batch of recent orders.  Over the past few days I've been busy working on several custom orders.  A couple weeks ago I introduced a batch of Harris Tweed Foldover Clutches to the shop. I'm really loving this design in the wool. The clutch pictured above just sold and reminded me that it's time to place an order for more tweed for upcoming fall and winter bags.     I have a wonderful selection of Harris Tweed samples to peruse. Shipping from Scotland can take several weeks so I need to place an order soon. Harris Tweed is quite costly and so is the shipping so I can only invest in a modest quantity. Last week was spent experimenting on new designs and techniques. Had fun creating a fringe and feather clutch. This one will be a gift for a friend. Added a few large wristlets to the shop with bird  and oak leaf appliques. Also added a medium sized two-toned faux suede shoulder bag with a handmade bird applique. And here's what my studio looks like this morning. There's a couple of hand-woven ikat and recycled leather clutches to be photographed and added to the shop. Just added a few items to the Pesky Cat Designs shop . First, a custom order Hobo Bag with an oak leaf applique. It's made from a buttery soft faux suede in chestnut brown. Next, a Foldover Clutch made from a beautiful cotton floral home decor print with a faux suede bottom. Corduroy has returned to the shop! Olive green corduroy Wayfarer Purse adorned with a bird applique.   A tangerine corduroy Wayfarer Purse is also available. This one is sure to brighten up all your outfits. This past week I worked in the studio and spent my breaks seaside.  Added four new corduroy purses to the shop . Raspberry red and cerulean blue. Also added a purse made from reclaimed leather to the shop . Next week I'll be drafting new bag designs, possibly two, and plan to introduce a new applique design. I feel so grateful these days to be able to work in my studio full time. I'm enjoying every minute of it and of course my breaks by the sea. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend. Enjoy!

Inspired by the latest color blocking trend, my new purses are created in blocks of velvet, chenille and corduroy. These bags are one-of-a-kind and now available at the Pesky Cat Designs shop . In the next several weeks I'll be working on re-stocking the shop with some of my staple bags such as the bird on a branch applique messenger bag. I plan to have a nice selection in time for the upcoming holiday season.

Y esterday I posted a glimpse into my studio with my recent work in progress. I needed interface in order to complete the work and was waiting for my supply to be shipped. Later that day it arrived! And today my second backup shipment arrived so I am well stocked for the next month. I completed three new corduroy purses and should be able to finish a few more today. The purses pictured above will be listed in my shop today. Wishing everyone a wonderful Friday and weekend ahead. 

I just added six new clutches to the Pesky Cat Designs shop ! It was a clutch factory here at the studio for the past two days. These are generously sized at 8.5" wide, 5.5" tall and 1.5" deep. Plenty of room for a small wallet, glasses, keys, cell phone and a lipstick or two. I use mine all the time. I still have more completed that need to be photographed later this week. I just added four more bags to the Pesky Cat Designs shop so all I have is 56 more to go by December 1st! See my last post for the scoop. Posted above is a new purse I created in a lovely dusty rose corduroy. I decided that a truffle brown applique would work perfect against the rose. I am still awaiting the rest of my corduroy shipment that I ordered last week. Some of the fabric is on back order so I will have to be patient. I do miss being able to walk to the NYC Garment District from my apartment and have 40 or more corduroy fabrics to choose from just in one shop!

  The Wayfarer Purse in Burnt Orange Corduroy with a Flower Applique This time of year my corduroy collection is always in demand. I love working with this textile which has a soft almost velvet look with a more casual appeal. I recently ordered a batch of corduroy and I am eagerly awaiting my shipment. On another note, my very talented friend Damjana of Loddelina bags came up with an idea to give ourselves a push for the holiday season. We have both agreed to have 100 items in our shop by December 1st of this year. Since we both have about 40 items in our shops right now we need to create 60 more by then. I look forward to the challenge. Get ready, set, GO!

The Semi-Circle Wristlet One of my favorite bags in the Pesky Cat Designs shop is the Semi-Circle Purse which inspired me to create my new wristlet design. A wristlet is perfect for days you don't want to carry a large purse but still want to bring your essentials. It has a detachable strap so you can use it as a wristlet or a clutch and there is one inner pocket that is perfect for your credit cards or cash. I just added a new Wayfarer Purse in a soft gray corduroy to the Pesky Cat Designs shop. It's fully lined in a lovely black and white cotton floral print fabric. I plan to create more purses in this fabric and color soon. I'm also working on a new applique design, a branch of dogwood flowers and one that will be a surprise. Hint- An animal that lives in the forest. Check out the shop for my latest equestrian addition as well. The perfect gift for a horse lover!

The Wayfarer Purse in Chenille with a Bird on a Branch Appliqu e At the moment there are a few purses available in the Pesky Cat Designs shop made from chenille fabric, one of my recent textile purchases. I plan on adding more throughout the next couple of weeks so stay tuned. Also to come, more bird appliques. I sold out of most of my aviary inspired purses so it's time to restock. Now on to corduroy. This fall and winter my corduroy purses were one of my best sellers. My stash is pretty low at the moment. I will have to head to the Garment District sometime soon and restock. Last but certainly not least, Harris Tweed! If you have been following my blog then you know how insanely fond I am of this cloth. Well, today my postman delivered two large envelopes filled with tweed from the Isle of Harris, Scotland. I could hardly contain myself. The Wayfarer Purse in Burnt Orange Corduroy with a Leafed Branch Applique It's been quite busy in the Pesky Cat Designs studio this week. I am happy to say that a lot was accomplished. In the next hour or so I'll be adding new corduroy Wayfarer Purses to the shop. My newest batch of purses all have straps that are lined with the same pretty cotton print fabric as the interior of the purse. I'll also be adding more purses to the shop tomorrow so check back soon!
