Studio News

Pictured above is the Jewel Cut Bag  now available in the shop.  It's a larger bag with plenty of room for your daily essentials and more. I plan to introduce a few more larger sized bags to the shop very soon.    This morning I shipped a batch of recent orders.  Over the past few days I've been busy working on several custom orders.  A couple weeks ago I introduced a batch of Harris Tweed Foldover Clutches to the shop. I'm really loving this design in the wool. The clutch pictured above just sold and reminded me that it's time to place an order for more tweed for upcoming fall and winter bags.     I have a wonderful selection of Harris Tweed samples to peruse. Shipping from Scotland can take several weeks so I need to place an order soon. Harris Tweed is quite costly and so is the shipping so I can only invest in a modest quantity. Orders are placed once a year. Very often I will only have enough of one weave to ...

New Harris Tweed Patchwork

Just added a couple of one-of-a-kind Harris Tweed patchwork bags to the Pesky Cat Designs shop. It will be the perfect bag to pair up with your favorite fall or winter coat and add a pop of color to your day. To create the flap I cut out squares of Harris Tweed wool and interface each piece. Then I play around arranging the different colors and patterns. That's the most fun part. When I am satisfied with the result I begin to sew them together. And that is how the patchwork flap evolves. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead. Enjoy!

Looking Back and Ahead

Harris Tweed Collection Fall 2010 In the next month work begins on the new Harris Tweed collection for fall 2011. I've already imported a nice selection of tweed from Scotland in beautiful shades of deep ocean blue, heathered blues, speckled grayish blues and a variety of check/plaids. The main theme will be earthy browns and coastal blues. Can't wait to get started! And wishing all the dad's out there a very Happy Father's Day!

New Items in the Shop

Just added a couple of pretty spring purses in sage green and cherry red to the Pesky Cat Designs shop. They are made from a fine quality linen-look upholstery fabric and adorned with a handmade leafed branch applique. Of course you can wear them any time of the year. They will brighten up your winter days as well! Yesterday I added the pair above to the shop. They are made from one of my favorite Harris Tweed weaves, the Macleod check. My Harris Tweed source is sending me sample swatches of plain weaves and checks available in their shop now. I can't wait to peruse them all!

Patchwork Satchels

I just added a couple of Harris Tweed Patchwork Satchels to the Pesky Cat Designs shop . I created the flap using several different Harris Tweed checks and added a large button to finish them off. The adjustable strap is made from luxurious velvet. Inside you will find one zippered pocket, one slip pocket and a swivel key clip to keep your things organized. These satchels are one-of-a-kind items.  I'm all out of Harris Tweed at the moment. I recently placed an order from my source in Scotland which I hope to receive soon.  For the next few weeks I'll be creating bags made from corduroy, heavyweight linen and canvas.  On that note, I'm off to the studio. See you soon!

Thursday's Purses

I n the next hour or so I'll be adding a small batch of new purses to the Pesky Cat Designs shop. The purse posted above is made from Harris Tweed wool, my favorite textile at the moment. Yesterday I sold the last purse in the shop made from the brown/mustard plaid and only have a small amount of fabric left over in the red/green and blue/green plaid. When I ordered my fabric from Scotland I was not sure if my customers would be interested in this cloth. Well, it has turned out to be one of my best sellers this season. I would have ordered more yardage if I knew ahead of time. But I guess that's the nature of the business. You never know what will be popular until you put it to the test!

Coming to the Shop

I'll be adding some new Harris Tweed bags to the Pesky Cat Designs shop around noon today. I just managed to photograph them before the morning sun disappeared. Rain is predicted for NYC today so I made sure I got an early start on the photo shoot. This purse has a cherry blossom branch made from ultrasuede in a tan color that really compliments the blue, brown and yellow tones in the plaid . I used a cotton print fabric that I purchased at The City Quilter to line the interior of this purse. The fabric has a combination of a subtle floral print and one that is more bold in brown, tan and gold. The print does not overwhelm the plaid and gives the bag more interest. I still have lots of Harris Tweed cloth in stock and plan on creating more purses in the upcoming weeks!

Plaid is Here!

The Offbeat Messenger in Plaid by Pesky Cat Designs This week I completed a couple of bags using a combination of plaid wool and corduroy. They will be available in my shop this afternoon. I love how the two winter textiles work together. I also purchased some Harris Tweed and can't wait to get started with it in my studio. More plaid creations are coming soon as well! Mad for Plaid and Tweed

Beautiful plaid wool via The Plaid Wool Company I've had plaid and tweed on my mind for the past few weeks and can't wait to get my hands on some very soon. Last year I made a few purses using a gorgeous Harris Tweed wool, see photo below, that I purchased at my local fabric shop in the East Village . I have some ideas for purse designs that I plan to create in the next week or so using plaid wool and tweed. I am also thinking of a plaid wool and corduroy combination. I'll be posting a sneak preview soon. Stay tuned! Harris Tweed and Velvet Applique Purse by Pesky Cat Designs
