Tapestry and Chenille

I wanted some new fabric to work with in the new year so I did some research online and decided to add tapestry and chenille to my stockpile. Both textiles sew up really well and are just the right weight for creating sturdy purses. My decision to purchase the tapestry fabric was inspired by a vintage purse I came across while perusing online. I've always loved the rich and opulent patterns and colors found in tapestries. The chenille was inspired by some fabric I purchased last year, a robin's egg blue chenille, that I absolutely love. It's soft and luxurious just like velvet but much easier to work with. At the moment I have it available in leaf green and robin's egg blue. The new batch of purses are all lined on the inside of the straps with the same fabric as the interior to add a little more drama. I'll have to wait and see how well these new textiles do in my shop. I never know what will be popular until I put it to the test!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Another Studio Location Coming Soon!

P esky Cat Designs will soon have another workshop location. Starting August 1st I'll be working from my studio located in St. Augustine Florida! Those who have been following my blog know that I've made many trips to the area in the past few years. I'm excited with the prospect of being able to work from a new place that will bring me new inspirations and ideas. My studio will be located within close proximity to several craft and green markets. If all goes as planned I hope to be able to sell my handbags at one of these markets as well as continue selling via my Etsy shop. I'll keep you posted with everything. Right now there is a lot of planning going on so I am not able to work on new handbags as much as I want to. As soon as all gets settled expect to see many new creations in the shop!
