Things Are Looking Up

Slowly but surely we are getting ready for our move to St. Augustine, Fl. I've already purchased new fabrics inspired by the impending move. Blue and white prints, various stripes and ticking, linen and jute webbing. In the past few weeks I've sold a lot of bags to friends and coworkers so I will need to replenish my Etsy shop as soon as I can.

The shop will be closed for a week or so during our move. Once the new studio is in place I'll begin production of a new collection. Can't wait!

How exciting! Nice to hear of your sales too.
I'm sure you will love it. Nothing is as exciting as being able to walk barefoot on the beach, almost the whole year round!

I did not realize that you were moving-I thought that you were splitting your time between the two places. Depending on the windows that your new place has let me know I had this metal screens that fit into your screen so the kitties do not push out the screen.
Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments!

Esme-Thanks for your advice. I'll have to look into the screens. Here in NYC I have screens that are pretty secure but I still always worry since we are on the 10th floor.
Good luck with the move, I'm still unpacking after mine, dying to get it all done and get back into some sewing!
How exciting!!

Good luck with the move!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
