Seahorses and Sea Glass

 Earrings from Sea Glass Designs

The handbag above sold to a lovely customer living in Quebec, Canada.
The sea is a big inspiration for my work. See my post below with the beautiful photos of Fire Island, NY. My parents loved the sea and would often take my brother and I to Jones Beach Island off the southern coast of Long Island, NY. I would spend the day collecting seashells, building sand castles and day dreaming.
Later on as an adult I would continue to take trips to the sea with my parents. My father would go fishing while my mother and I would sit by the seashore painting the landscape with our watercolors.
A while back I did a search on Etsy.com to find items with an ocean theme. I came across a shop called Sea Glass Designs. They make jewelry and art from natural sea glass, pottery and china shards gathered from Novia Scotia beaches. Absolutely beautiful work! You must check it out.  I bought a fantastic pair of  earrings made from white seaglass with stamped silver plated seahorses. They are posted above. I love them!  The sellers were so nice as well!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Another Studio Location Coming Soon!

P esky Cat Designs will soon have another workshop location. Starting August 1st I'll be working from my studio located in St. Augustine Florida! Those who have been following my blog know that I've made many trips to the area in the past few years. I'm excited with the prospect of being able to work from a new place that will bring me new inspirations and ideas. My studio will be located within close proximity to several craft and green markets. If all goes as planned I hope to be able to sell my handbags at one of these markets as well as continue selling via my Etsy shop. I'll keep you posted with everything. Right now there is a lot of planning going on so I am not able to work on new handbags as much as I want to. As soon as all gets settled expect to see many new creations in the shop!
