Greetings from Miami Beach!

Last Tuesday my partner Tom and I left NYC to embark on a road trip to Florida. Along the way we made lots of stops. One of my favorite places so far was Savannah, Georgia. The city is just beautiful with Spanish moss hanging from trees everywhere and quaint looking homes. I could picture myself living there. One of the most adventerous places we visited was Juniper Springs Park in Ocala, Florida. We rented a canoe and paddled 7 miles along a narrow river surrounded with lush vegetation and overhanging trees that required us to duck on many occassions. At one point we paddled by an alligator that growled at us!

Well, yesterday we arrived in Miami Beach! We spent the entire day walking along the beach and exploring the area. The ocean is absolutely beautiful here. Today we plan to visit the Florida Everglades. When I return from my trip I'll post lots of photos and I'll even have a giveaway. Stay tuned!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
