Fabric Shopping in NYC

NY Elegant Fabrics (photo via Threads Magazine)

I spent most of today perusing bolts of fabric in search of some new textiles for my fall collection of handbags. I brought my camera along with intentions of taking lots of cool photos to post on my blog but instead got swept away by all textures and colors. By the time I remembered that I had a camera with me I was already carrying several bags of newly purchased fabric rendering my hands useless for photography. I promise that next time I will have more self control. My first stop today was NY Elegant Fabrics located on 40th street in the Garment District. They have a great selection of fabric and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I purchased some fabric and headed over to a couple more shops in the area. An hour or two later I was on a bus headed downtown to Chinatown.
There are several great fabric shops on Broadway in Chinatown that have really excellent prices and I was hoping for some bargains. My favorite shop in this area is P & S Fabrics. The owners are the nicest and it is always a pleasure to shop there. I found this blog post about P & S Fabrics with great photos here. A few bags of fabric later I was on my way home via the subway's R train to 14th Street Union Square. When I emerged from the underground I was among all the vendors at the Union Square Farmers Market. I stopped to purchase some wheatgrass for my kitty Anni and some broccoli for a stir fry. When I reached home I was exhausted but content. I placed Anni's wheatgrass on the windowsill and called it a day.

Thanks for the photo. I've had this happen when I'd planned to blog about something but got busy and swept up; later to realize I didn't take pics! So you're in good company. Wow, the garment district sounds like a candy store for fabric lovers. I can't wait to see what you come up with for your fall collection!

A lovely post, what a great day of shopping!
I can't wait to see what you bought...

I have yards and yards of fabric at home but that doesn't stop me from wanting to buy more whenever I see something nice (I guess fabrics replace shoes in our type of women...)

New Harris Tweed Purses

Harris Tweed Color Block Purse This week in the studio I did some experimenting combining various Harris Tweed weaves to create a purse. This purse is also a new design measuring at approximately 14" wide, 8.5" high and 2.5" deep. Roomy enough to fit your daily essentials with a stream-lined design to fit comfortably under your arm. Harris Tweed Color Block Purse The purse above is made from Harris Tweed wool in two plain weaves and a barleycorn weave. I love the contrasting colors and textures. Back view of purses above. Harris Tweed Two Tone Bag And last but not least, a basket/tote design, using a lovely blue Harris Tweed plain weave and a Macleod check. All these new bags are now available at the Pesky Cat Designs shop. Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
