The Last Day of Summer

Long Beach, NY circa 1923

Today I spent the last day of the summer in Long Beach, a city in Nassau County, New York on a barrier island off the South Shore of Long Island. The trip started with a 20 minute walk to Penn Station from where my partner and I boarded the 9:37 AM train that took 50 minutes to arrive at our destination. A few minutes later we were walking along the beach. The weather was a perfect 76F and sunny. Unlike the photo above, the beach was pretty empty with only a few people here and there worshipping the sun and a few surfers trying to catch a wave. We sat in the sun for a while and watched the waves coming to shore and the seagulls basking in the sun.
Later in the day we ventured into town for a meal of pizza and coca cola. Cheap but filling. We returned to the oceanfront to walk along the boardwalk which is about 2 1/4 miles long. There's a bike lane on the boardwalk and many cyclists were out enjoying the beautiful weather, even a mom and dad on a two seated bike towing their sleeping child in an attached trailer. At 3:07 PM we boarded the train headed back to Penn Station and arrived home a hour later slightly sun burned but content. Hope you had a wonderful day!

It sounds wonderfull - I used to live an hour away from the sea (when you live in a small country like Slovenia, pretty much everything is an hour away...).
Our last day od Summer was sunny and pleasantly warm - a very nice farewell.

What a lovely way to spend the last day of summer. Funny but I looked at the calendar and saw "first day of fall" as the earmark -- I love that you turned the last day of summer into a quaint celebration. Thanks for sharing Elisa.
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day!

New Harris Tweed Purses

Harris Tweed Color Block Purse This week in the studio I did some experimenting combining various Harris Tweed weaves to create a purse. This purse is also a new design measuring at approximately 14" wide, 8.5" high and 2.5" deep. Roomy enough to fit your daily essentials with a stream-lined design to fit comfortably under your arm. Harris Tweed Color Block Purse The purse above is made from Harris Tweed wool in two plain weaves and a barleycorn weave. I love the contrasting colors and textures. Back view of purses above. Harris Tweed Two Tone Bag And last but not least, a basket/tote design, using a lovely blue Harris Tweed plain weave and a Macleod check. All these new bags are now available at the Pesky Cat Designs shop. Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
