Sewing up a Storm

Custom orders have kept me quite busy this past week so I've been a little behind in my blog posts. Today I finally finished up my last handbag, a custom order going out to Switzerland that will be shipped tomorrow. It's a gift for a September birthday. About a month ago I decided to officially take on custom orders and it has been a success. So far this month half my sales were custom bags. They take a bit more time in the planning stage as I often need to send several emails back and forth to a potential customer to make sure to get all the details correct. I also have to check my stock of fabric and make sure I have enough yardage to produce a bag before I commit to an order. In the end it is satisfying to know a customer is getting exactly what they want. Custom orders rock!

Good job - now you can enjoy your weekend!
I agree custom orders rock. Most of my orders last holiday season were custom orders.

Wow, that's wonderful! I'm very happy it's working out for you!

I've decided not to take custom orders since this summer: most of my custom work has been fun but I those few overly demanding customers just made the process a drag. But then, I'm working on two that can be called custom (a variation of existing designs) so I'm not sure how set I am in that decision :)

I'm happy to hear how busy you are with orders! What a smart idea to take on custom orders. I'm so glad its worked out for you.

I haven't had a lot of time for blogging lately because of the new kitten but even more so because my husband and I have been working hard to locate and befriend the pretty calico cat who was the victim of cruelty. Today our efforts really paid off because she came to our yard, ate here and let my husband pet her! We hope to be able to take her to our vet in a week or so.

Keep up the lovely work!
Congrats on all the custom orders, they definitely make selling on Etsy fun!

Yes I also work a lot on custom orders...they are definitely more work but it is nice to work with the person!Hope you have a nice break after all that?
Thanks everyone for your comments. Yes, customs orders are great. They are more work, especially in the first stages since you need to communicate with the customer a lot to make sure you get all the details correct. Because of the time constraint it can also be more stressful because you do not want to make a mistake and have to start over again. But in the end it is very rewarding to know that a customer is getting exactly what they have envisioned!

New Harris Tweed Purses

Harris Tweed Color Block Purse This week in the studio I did some experimenting combining various Harris Tweed weaves to create a purse. This purse is also a new design measuring at approximately 14" wide, 8.5" high and 2.5" deep. Roomy enough to fit your daily essentials with a stream-lined design to fit comfortably under your arm. Harris Tweed Color Block Purse The purse above is made from Harris Tweed wool in two plain weaves and a barleycorn weave. I love the contrasting colors and textures. Back view of purses above. Harris Tweed Two Tone Bag And last but not least, a basket/tote design, using a lovely blue Harris Tweed plain weave and a Macleod check. All these new bags are now available at the Pesky Cat Designs shop. Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
Everything in my shop is now 20% OFF and includes free shipping!
