I'm Back!

I'm back from my trip to St. Augustine Beach, Fl. We stayed at a hotel just yards away from Anastasia State Park, which includes more than 1,600 acres featuring four miles of pristine beach, a tidal salt marsh, and a maritime and upland hammock. There is also an archaeological site where coquina rock was mined to create the nearby fortress, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. You can enjoy camping, beachcombing, swimming, picnicking, windsurfing, hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, boating and more. A self-guided nature trail guides hikers through a maritime hammock on ancient sand dunes. The weather was perfect, high 80's and sunny, so we were out and about everyday.

Now that I'm back I'm a busy bee working on several new projects. I'll tell you all about them very soon. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead!

What a beautiful beach and I like your story about Annie-Penelope and Magellan are both rescue kitties-we have had a busy morning-P. has discovered the kitchen counter-I have a cutting board and she was going from the table to the cutting board onto the counter-now she has realized that she does not need the table to get to the cutting board-I cannot tell you how many times I have taken her off the counter. She does not need the cutting board either-but she does not know that.

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
