Gray is the New Black

There was a time in my 20's that I only wore black, sorta like Johnny Cash, but as I got older I learned to appreciate a more color infused wardrobe. I still have the staple black turtleneck and trousers but I also own items in chartreuse, salmon and fuchsia. When I shop for fabric I am definitely drawn to bold colors but I realize that many women also look for more neutral tones when they are purchasing a handbag. So I make sure my studio is stocked with a little of both.
In my recent search on the internet for the latest fall color trends I found a lot of gray tones. According to an article I read, the key to refreshing your fall palette is pairing brighter colors with today's neutrals. I had some gray pinwale corduroy in stock so I decided to create a purse using this fabric. In the meantime I got a request for a custom order messenger bag in this fabric as well. I think the Wayfarer Purse posted above would look great with a vibrant fuchsia colored jacket or perhaps one in citron. Of course a classic black coat would be a perfect match as well!

I think grey is a great choice because it goes with lots of other colour yet it is not black...

Lovely purse! I used to love gray as well, that nice warm shade that goes so well with beige and dark blue.
I love the idea of pairing this purse with fuchsia, a perfect combination!

This looks great in grey. I too have always leaned towards a wardrobe heavy on black. But with each year I appreciate infusing it with rich colors that make me happy. Nice post, keep these great bags coming!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Another Studio Location Coming Soon!

P esky Cat Designs will soon have another workshop location. Starting August 1st I'll be working from my studio located in St. Augustine Florida! Those who have been following my blog know that I've made many trips to the area in the past few years. I'm excited with the prospect of being able to work from a new place that will bring me new inspirations and ideas. My studio will be located within close proximity to several craft and green markets. If all goes as planned I hope to be able to sell my handbags at one of these markets as well as continue selling via my Etsy shop. I'll keep you posted with everything. Right now there is a lot of planning going on so I am not able to work on new handbags as much as I want to. As soon as all gets settled expect to see many new creations in the shop!
