St. Augustine Update

St. Augustine Lighthouse via

I still do not have access to my own computer and apologize for not being able to post pics of my new studio and home in St. Augustine, Florida. The internet provider here did not have our address in their data base so things are taking a long time. I expect to be up and running next week. Thanks for all your wonderful comments and for all your support. It has meant so much to me especially at this time.

We are riding our bicycles everywhere in this bike-friendly town, even along the beach! See RideThisBike for a link to a video of someone pedaling along the shore.

I've been working on new handbags and should have those listed in my shop next week. I'll be adding a batch of new Harris Tweed and corduroy bags. I'm also working on a new collection of bags created in lighter textiles. I recently purchased some gorgeous fabric by Annie Selke in tones inspired by the sea and sand. Stay tuned!

Sorry to hear about the internet problems, we waited a full month for our internet (plus phone and TV) to be connected once we moved in the new flat...
I hope you haver a friendly internet cafe near your house to catch up with your mail and that it gives you the opportunity to get to know your new neighbourhood!

The pictures you have posted throughout your blog of your new home are STUNNING! The blue, blue water, the pristine beaches, the clean, white sand, the bright green flora & that gorgeous red, white & blue light house...wow, it's amazing & terrific. Oh! and let mw not forget your large, new studio space for creating more of those beautiful handbags.

I know moving is stressful but I hope & believe you & Anni will be very happy in St. Augustine!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Another Studio Location Coming Soon!

P esky Cat Designs will soon have another workshop location. Starting August 1st I'll be working from my studio located in St. Augustine Florida! Those who have been following my blog know that I've made many trips to the area in the past few years. I'm excited with the prospect of being able to work from a new place that will bring me new inspirations and ideas. My studio will be located within close proximity to several craft and green markets. If all goes as planned I hope to be able to sell my handbags at one of these markets as well as continue selling via my Etsy shop. I'll keep you posted with everything. Right now there is a lot of planning going on so I am not able to work on new handbags as much as I want to. As soon as all gets settled expect to see many new creations in the shop!
