A Glimpse into the Studio


Below is a glimpse into the Pesky Cat Designs studio this morning. It's my favorite time to work since I love the sunlight that streams in and it always puts me in a good mood. I don't like to work with artificial light so I need to get up early to get a days work in. 


Lots of new bags are currently in production at the studio. I'm waiting for a shipment of heavy weight sew-in interface to arrive before I can complete them. It's on backorder from my current vendor so I purchased some from another source hoping that one of my orders will arrive soon. All my bags are made with a heavy sew-in interface to give them shape and durability. Also, my interior fabric and exterior fabric is interfaced with fusible stabilizer. So the bags all have three layers of interface.  I'll keep you posted on when the new batch of bags are completed!

Thanks Dawn. I love the sunshine too. Wish the floors were wood but I should not complain. It's the first time have an entire room devoted to my studio space.
Everything is within reach, my fabric, supplies, sewing machine, drafting table, ironing station and sunlight. :)

Mmmm, sunlight!
In these dark wintry days it is really hard to take decent pictures of the bags let alone sew by the natural light...

Can't wait to see the finished bags!

Nice to see your creative space Elisa:)Looks great lots of light, organise, spacious...that would have been a little frustrating to wait for the interface...wow you use a fair amount of it too!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. Music Inspired

Pink Floyd   Bowie   Red Hot Chili Peppers  Hand-painted hazmat suit with images from Pink Floyd The Wall. This is still a work in progress. Plan to wear to a Halloween party this year. Below shows back of suit.  Closet door painted by me as a teenager around 1980. Music and art has always been a big part of my life. In the past year I have added a music-inspired collection of bags to my shop. The appliques are hand-cut and then machine stitched to the bag. No two bags are ever exactly alike. One-of-a-kind and all handmade by me in my studio from start to finish. See the entire collection here.
