A Little Break

Update posted on 1/6/09......The photo above is the finished Bakugan Battle Brawlers watercolor that I painted and gave to my nephews for Christmas. It was a big hit! Read my post below from 12/22/08 for more information.

Today I decided to take some well needed time off from sewing. Actually, I plan to take the rest of the week off! Besides my Pesky Cat Designs business, I also work 3 days a week at an outside job. This month has been quite busy for me since business picked up in my shop and I tried to keep up with demand by spending more hours in the studio sewing. I was even working in the studio after working my other job. But I am not complaining. I just need a little break. Yes it is work, but I love designing and creating handbags!
After I finish this post I am going to create a 22" by 28" watercolor painting of a character from Bakugan Battle Brawlers for my nephews. I had no idea what they were until today when my sister-in-law mentioned them in an email to me.  I did some research online and found out that Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a Japanese anime television series whose story centers on the lives of creatures called bakugan and the battle brawlers who wield them. Both my nephews love to draw and they are always asking me to draw various creatures for them when I come for visits. I plan to give them the bakugan painting for Christmas. Now I just have to figure out which character to paint!

The Pesky Cat's Day Dream

Katzenhohle by Dornroeschen Filzunikate I recently came across this incredible cat bed made by German artist Dornroeschen Filzunikate. This beautiful piece of functional art called a Katzenhohle , cat cave, is handmade of felted wool. It's definitely the most unique cat bed I have ever seen. It would bring a bit of nature into my urban NYC home. I think my Anni would love a cat cave although her favorite spots right now are the pillow behind my head in bed, a straw basket that was meant to store magazines and a storage box made from fabric that becomes a hammock when she sleeps in it. My sweet Anni FOX 5 Update : A while back I wrote a post about a story that Fox 5 news was doing on Etsy and the handmade market. I was interviewed in my studio as part of the feature. An Etsy press agent recently informed me that the story aired April 15th and he also missed it. He said he is trying to get a copy of it from the studio. I'll be sure to post a link to it when it becomes availab...

Another Studio Location Coming Soon!

P esky Cat Designs will soon have another workshop location. Starting August 1st I'll be working from my studio located in St. Augustine Florida! Those who have been following my blog know that I've made many trips to the area in the past few years. I'm excited with the prospect of being able to work from a new place that will bring me new inspirations and ideas. My studio will be located within close proximity to several craft and green markets. If all goes as planned I hope to be able to sell my handbags at one of these markets as well as continue selling via my Etsy shop. I'll keep you posted with everything. Right now there is a lot of planning going on so I am not able to work on new handbags as much as I want to. As soon as all gets settled expect to see many new creations in the shop!
