The Juki Rocks

My new Juki arrived yesterday as scheduled! I immediately removed it from the box, placed it on my table and proceeded to read the manual. The first step was to wind up the bobbin, step two was to thread the machine (a bit different from my old one), and then I took a scrap of fabric and began sewing. This machine sews like a dream. I was in awe. I finished up the messenger bag posted above with such ease. My old machine would struggle through the thick fabric of the straps when I attached them to the bag. My Juki went through them with ease and speed. Oh yes, the speed.  1,500 spm versus my old model's 850 spm. I'm sure by now you can tell I am very fond of my new machine.

by the way, what is that metallic stick in front? Is it somekind of distance keeper between the machine and the edge of the desk?
Damjana- It looks weird doesn't it?! The stick is a knee lifter lever that allows me to lift/lower the presser foot without releasing my hand away from the material being sewn. I am still reaching with my hand to lift the presser foot manually out of habit though! You can do both on this machine.

New Harris Tweed Purses

Harris Tweed Color Block Purse This week in the studio I did some experimenting combining various Harris Tweed weaves to create a purse. This purse is also a new design measuring at approximately 14" wide, 8.5" high and 2.5" deep. Roomy enough to fit your daily essentials with a stream-lined design to fit comfortably under your arm. Harris Tweed Color Block Purse The purse above is made from Harris Tweed wool in two plain weaves and a barleycorn weave. I love the contrasting colors and textures. Back view of purses above. Harris Tweed Two Tone Bag And last but not least, a basket/tote design, using a lovely blue Harris Tweed plain weave and a Macleod check. All these new bags are now available at the Pesky Cat Designs shop. Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead!
Everything in my shop is now 20% OFF and includes free shipping!
